Activities

  • Discussion. Expand the “don’t judge a book by its cover” theme and look into other foods that are ugly or beautiful on the outside, but are the opposite on the inside.
  • Persuasion. Make a persuasive poster / advert to encourage people to eat green eggs and ham.
  • Description. Get learners to think of words that describe food items that they like and ones they do not. Can they think of lots of synonyms for these?
  • Comprehension. Retell the story from the point of view of Sam-I-Am. Why did he want to persuade the grumpy grouch to try the green eggs and ham? How did he feel throughout the story?
  • Creative thinking. Plan a meal that grumpy grouch might like to eat instead of green eggs and ham? (CC: Science)
